SS-Polizei-Regiment Heldentod Grouping (Ref. DOC152) Grouping to a Oberfeldwebel of the Schutzpolizei, killed in action whilst serving with an SS-Polizei-Regiment in Hungary during 1944. From the death notice that accompanies the grouping, we can see that Witt served with Polizei Bat'l. 106, during their time in the area of Poland known as the General Gouvernement, specifically Krakau, Gorlice, Jasno, 1939-1942. Records show that many of the Polizei Batl'n were involved in actions associated with the Holocaust. The grouping includes the rare Heldentod document, with accompanying letter of condolence from SS-Brigadefuehrer Flade; in addition several other items of documentation. Of note, the grouping also includes a cigarette case and wallet (returned to the widow) that Witt had on his person at the time of his death (as evidenced by the bullet holes).
